CVP (Customer Value Partners)
• 818 位关注者Hey folks… I don't usually write long posts, but I want to share a blog and case study CVP just published about using Fifer—our AI suite designed for secure government work—to help agencies meet the "America by Design" Executive Order deadline. But first, some personal thoughts on where we are with all this.
When the Executive Order came out last August, my first thought wasn't about politics or timelines. I immediately thought about the people I used to design for on USCIS projects—immigrants and case managers struggling with systems that made their already difficult situations even harder. After years doing this work, I know bad digital design isn't just annoying... it delays life-changing decisions about safety, family reunification, and citizenship.
The EO talks about filling "digital potholes," and yeah, that's one way to put it. But those of us in government UX see these as real barriers keeping people from accessing services they need.
Here's the thing... this work isn't new. Teams like 18F and USDS have been doing incredible work for over a decade. They created USWDS and fundamentally changed how government thinks about digital services. And then agencies like the VA and DHS have been leaders showing what's possible when you prioritize human-centered design.
So, I’m hopeful this EO brings the executive attention and resources needed to finally scale these proven approaches across all agencies. We're now more than halfway to the July deadline, and traditional UX timelines just won't cut it.
I'm grateful CVP has been ahead of the curve with Fifer. And using AI isn't about automating away our expertise… it's about amplifying it. Empathy, creativity, stakeholder management, understanding user needs… that’s all still entirely human. But when AI handles pattern recognition, compliance checking, and documentation, we can focus on the strategic work that actually transforms citizen experiences.
The case study we put together isn't meant to critique any specific agency… it's an educational example showing common patterns and how quickly we can address them when human expertise and AI acceleration work together.
The blog is below and the case study is linked inside... feel free to reach out!
Would love to hear what other folks working in government UX are experiencing as we get closer to July.

More and more digital products will have agentic experiences.
Between Space & Time, the agentic experiences are orchestrated on the Time axis.
User writing a prompt, agent responding, agent spinning up more tasks, said tasks completing, human reviewing those tasks, steering the agent and so on...
It's impossible to 'simulate' this experience with static mocks.
So the problem is NOT that the canvas is limiting. Canvas has its benefits. But interfaces of the future are collapsing on the Space axis and expanding rapidly on Time axis.
Canvas utility falls short there.

You may have noticed that the latest version of InDesign includes an AI Alt-text generator, which automatically creates image descriptions for accessibility purposes.
You might be thinking, "Great! A silver bullet for Alt-text. I don't have to worry about writing it anymore."
But that's definitely not the case! In fact, it comes with a lot of risk.
Here’s what you need to know before using InDesign’s AI Alt-text generator for accessible PDFs.

Go full-screen video → switch apps for a sec → come back → bam, blurred webpage with “Click to Exit Full Screen?” overlay. Forced into a temporarily locked state.
Can’t we just resume fullscreen? No.
Users don’t care about what’s under the hood; they want it to work as expected. The attached message frequently leaves me thinking, "How do I resume?", "Am I missing something?"
Here are some general takeaways that come to mind when looking at this:
Give users reasonable solutions for common use cases.
Anticipate what options a user wants/needs.
Don't punish users.
What are your thoughts? Care to add to the story?

In complex projects with nested precomps and multiple vector files, manually enabling Collapse Transformations to fix that pixelation is slow and frustrating.
AutoCollapse is a smart script that enables Collapse Transformations on all layers, even inside deeply nested or locked comps, and more.

It’s actually about time. Specifically, 3 seconds. ⏱️
If a user has to pause for more than 3 seconds to figure out your interface, the design has failed.
We often confuse "beautiful" with "usable."
But in the digital world, confusion is the ultimate conversion killer.
Perfection isn't reached when there is nothing left to add.
It is reached when there is zero cognitive load left to remove.
The best interfaces don't make you think.
They let you flow.
Here is the 3-Second Test for your next project:
1. Show your screen to a stranger.
2. Don't explain anything.
3. Watch their eyes.
If they hesitate, you still have work to do.
Design is silent communication.
Make sure yours isn't mumbling.
Does your current project pass the 3-second test? Let me know below. 👇

• 2613 位关注者Here are three key principles of CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) for product imagery that clients should be aware of:
1. Accuracy and Realism Depend on Input Quality.
Why it matters: The realism of a CGI render heavily relies on the quality of the input data. So CAD files, product references, textures, and materials.
Client takeaway: Provide accurate CAD data, material specs (e.g. glossiness, reflectivity), and/or high-quality reference photos to ensure photorealistic results.
2. Creative Flexibility Comes with Planning.
Unlimited angles, but not unlimited revisions.
Why it matters: CGI allows for endless variations colours, environments, lighting, and perspectives but each version takes time and budget.
Client takeaway: Decide early on the key visuals and use cases (e.g. website, packaging, lifestyle) to avoid costly scope creep or unnecessary iterations.
3. CGI is Not Instant, It’s a Production Process.
Rendering isn’t clicking a button, it’s building a whole scene.
Why it matters: Just like photography, CGI involves staging, lighting, texturing, rendering, and post-processing.
Client takeaway: Set realistic timelines. Expect 3–5 business days for simple product renders; more for complex scenes or animations.
I'm here if you need me.
Tobi.

Design shouldn’t stop at handoff.
When Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator are tightly integrated with AEM (Adobe Experience Manager), creatives and developers finally speak the same language.
✨ What changes?
Designers push brand-ready assets directly into AEM
Developers get clean, reusable content (no endless re-exports)
Faster time-to-market with full governance & versioning
Ready for personalization and activation via Adobe Experience Platform (AEP)
This is how you turn static designs into scalable digital experiences—without breaking brand consistency or velocity.
Curious how teams are doing this in real enterprise setups?
Let’s discuss 👇

When designing a layout, I think through a narrative process. How do I want the reader to move through this piece? How am I visually crafting a story?
This is all easier said than done, though. Many non-profits have marketing materials that don't properly convey their message and don't present the non-profit in the best light.
Let your organization shine through purposeful designs!

I've just tested Autodesk Flow Studio's Character Integration (Wonder Dynamics app) on one of the scenes in my recent Short Film!
Results look stable enough when used with no objects occluding the character (otherwise it integrates on top of the objects and roto will be needed).

Well-stored negatives and contact sheets create a tangible legacy—portable, browsable, and resilient to software rot.
